Times change, and Tier 4 engine requirements mean RCI must change, too
New environmental and engine manufacturing standards have led to requirements for cleaner fuel. High-pressure common-rail engines and piezo electric fuel injectors require pristinely clean fuel to avoid downtime and to optimize operational efficiency. Fuel is now filtered to remove contaminants as small as 1 micron.
At the same time, stricter emission standards have forced diesel fuel’s sulphur content to be reduced, replaced by surfactants and other additives. And while viscosity and lubricity is replenished by such additives, these changes have led to higher emulsification of water. This highly mixed fluid often requires additional processing to separate fully.
