Diesel fuel begins to deteriorate as soon as it is produced. This problem poses no threat if the fuel is consumed quickly. Unfortunately, diesel fuel may be stored for years. This deterioration affects the fuels pumpability and combustibility. Aged fuel tends to repolymerize, forming submicron particles, causing excessive wear to injector pumps, clogged filters and sludge deposits.

By recirculating your fuel stores, you can fight the contamination battle by constantly recirculating the fuel and removing water, dirt, and algae before it builds up and poses a threat to your equipment. When your fuel is free from contaminants, your equipment will show increased reliability and performance, as clean fuel burns cleaner.

The FRS 660 Series of fuel recirculating systems are pre-engineered, integrated systems consisting of a packaged pump, motor, programmable control and pre-plumbed and pre-wired accessories. The RCI Fuel Recirculating Systems provide the user with the reliability of a job-engineered system, matched components, and factory assembly. These systems are designed for use with fuel oil (class II or class III combustible liquids having a flash point of 100ºF or higher).

The RCI FRS 660 Systems are fully enclosed and suitable for wall or pad mounting. All devices, wiring, electrical, and plumbing are contained within a NEMA 4 UL listed weatherproof enclosure. Isolated internal compartments are provided for mechanical and electrical components. External ports are provided for connection of field plumbing. The enclosure includes a drip catch basin with internal and external alarm and leak detection.

Routine circulation with the FRS 660 Systems will remove 100% of all free water and up to 99% of dust, dirt and other normal and natural contaminates found in all diesel fuels, including sludge and algae. In addition to dramatically extending filter life and improving engine performance, it increases combustibility. Even today's “CLEAN” diesel fuel will easily become contaminated during transportation and storage. RCI Technologies Fuel Purifiers contain no filters and no moving parts, there are no elements or cartridges to clean, change or replace.

Do you really need to keep a Fuel Tank at 2 Microns?

There are vendors trying to sell fuel recirculating systems, quoting “7 Stages of filtration” or “Let us clean your 30,000 gallon fuel tank to 2 Microns,” without any consideration for the end user. Do you realize how long you would have to run the system to maintain a 30,000-gallon fuel tank at 2 microns? And how many times your customer would have to change these 2-micron filters? If they can maintain your fuel tank at 2 microns then there would be no need for your inline filters. It just doesn’t wash!

With the RCI Technologies Fuel Purifier meeting and exceeding the “90 mesh strainer coalescer/separator requirements,” we can design a system to any specification, but would be negligent not to advise our customer of a potential problem with this design. Diesel equipment has multiple filters ranging in micron size to accommodate the contamination found in all fuels. Most primary filters are in the 10 to 20 micron size, sometimes as high as 30 micron. The secondary filter, or final filter, should be 2 to 10 microns, thus reducing the chances of filter clogging and excessive maintenance.

It would be cost prohibitive for your customer to try to maintain a fuel tank at 2 micron when going to a higher micron primary filter. Conventional filtration is designed to shut off the fuel flow as the filter clogs. Therefore, the potential problem of having multiple filters from 2 micron to 30/20/10 back to 2 micron would not be cost effective to your customer, as the cost of filter replacement, down time, and hazardous waste disposal fees constantly increase.

RCI Technologies Fuel Purifier will remove all the water and particulates to below 10 microns and requires no replacement filters, cartridges or elements to clean, change or replace. Total maintenance is a simple purging. The sole function of our Purifier is to remove water and particulate before it gets to the conventional filtration. Here again, installing a 2 micron filter at the beginning of the fuel stream, would cause your customer excessive maintenance and down time changing the 2 micron filters.

In Section 3 of our FRS Sales Manual, installation photos will show how some of our valued customers, Home Savings & Loan (FTI) and Exodus Communications (Earth-Safe), have used RCI Technologies fuel purification products to protect their expensive conventional tank cleaning systems, recirculating systems, and day tanks, due to extreme high cost of maintaining them.

Multiple tank units can be supplied with RCI Technologies innovated modbus ball valves or conventional hard wired ball valves. The modbus requires only 12 wires per system vs. converting 7 wires per valve.
